Kawardha is set for a major infrastructure transformation with a ₹54-crore project to upgrade a 7.8-km stretch of National Highway-30 into a four-lane road, accompanied by a divider and new gateways at two major approaches to the city.
Deputy Chief Minister and Public Works Minister Arun Sao and Deputy Chief Minister and Kawardha MLA Vijay Sharma performed the bhoomipujan for the project at the new Mandi complex in Kawardha on Thursday. Contemporary reports confirm the ₹54-crore cost and 7.8-km four-laning project.
The road will begin near Chandrayan Hospital, pass through important parts of Kawardha and extend beyond Joratal. The project is intended to improve movement through the city while giving its principal approaches a distinct identity.
Grand entrance gateways are also proposed on the Raipur and Bilaspur sides. According to details released for the project, their designs will incorporate elements representing Kawardha’s religious and cultural heritage.
Road, Education and Tourism Projects Expand Development Push
At the programme, Sao announced development works worth another ₹8 crore following requests made by Sharma. These include ₹3.50 crore for a community building and mutton market in Kawardha municipality, ₹1.50 crore for market relocation in Bodla, ₹1.50 crore for a Gaurav Path at Badhantola in Sahaspur Lohara and ₹1.50 crore for a playground in Pipariya. He also announced road construction and repair works.

Speaking at the gathering, Sao said the state government was giving priority to roads and other basic infrastructure and maintained that public resources were being directed towards development from villages to cities.
“The people’s money is being spent on the development of the people, and Chhattisgarh’s treasury has been opened for the people of Chhattisgarh,” Sao said, according to the state government release supplied for the event.
He said administrative approvals worth ₹12,666 crore had been issued by the Public Works Department over the past two-and-a-half years, with projects either under way or already completed.
Sao also referred to the state government’s implementation of commitments concerning housing, paddy procurement, payment of pending bonus, the Mahtari Vandan scheme, tendu leaf remuneration and the CBI investigation into the PSC case.
Vijay Sharma said development projects worth around ₹140 crore had been sanctioned for Kawardha, spanning roads, education, urban development and religious and tourism infrastructure.
Among these, he said, is a ₹4.5-crore Nalanda campus planned with round-the-clock library and digital-library facilities. He also referred to the ₹10-crore Ghotiya Road constructed to facilitate the operation of the new bus stand and ₹1.46 crore sanctioned for development of the Bhoramdev complex.

Development works are also being undertaken around the pond complex, garden and fairground as well as at Chherki Mahal, Ramchua and Sarodha, he said.
Sharma said the road, education and tourism projects together were contributing to a broader transformation of Kawardha, while the government was also working to extend housing, health and other basic facilities.
Rajnandgaon-Kawardha MP Santosh Pandey described the proposed gateways as more than new entrances to the city, saying they would symbolise its development. He said the four-lane road would improve connectivity while ongoing road and railway projects would further strengthen infrastructure in the region.
The ceremony was attended by Zila Panchayat president Ishwari Sahu, vice-president Kailash Chandravanshi, municipal president Chandraprakash Chandravanshi, Rajendra Chandravanshi, police authority member Bhagat Patel, Collector Tulika Prajapati, Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Yadav, other public representatives and residents.
