According to the Home Ministry notification, the Central Government has further extended the period of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) after reviewing the law and order situation in the state of Manipur.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has implemented the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in the entire area of ​​Manipur, although 13 police station areas have been excluded from it. Along with this, AFSPA has also been extended for the next six months in Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts of Arunachal Pradesh and three police station areas of the state. AFSPA has also been extended in Nagaland. It has been implemented in eight districts and 21 police station areas of five other districts of the state. This extension will remain effective for the next six months.

Central Government Notification
According to the Home Ministry notification, the Central Government, after reviewing the law and order situation in the state of Manipur, exercising the powers conferred by Section 3 of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, has declared the whole of Manipur, except the areas falling under the jurisdiction of 13 police stations in five districts, as a ‘disturbed area’ with effect from 1 April 2025 for a period of six months, unless withdrawn earlier.

AFSPA will not be implemented in these areas
The police station areas of Manipur where AFSPA has not been implemented include Imphal, Lamphal, City, Singjami, Patsoi, Wangoi, Porompat, Hingang, Irilbung, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Nambol and Kakching.

Along with this, the Home Ministry has extended the period of AFSPA in Dimapur, Niuland, Chumoukedima, Mon, Kiphire, Noklak, Phek and Peren districts of Nagaland. Areas falling under the jurisdiction of Khuzama, Kohima North, Kohima South, Zubja and Kezocha police stations of Kohima district, Mangkolemba, Mokokchung-I, Longtho, Tuli, Longchem and Anaki ‘C’ police stations of Mokokchung district have also been declared disturbed.
