Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh): A teacher at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was shot in the head by unknown assailants on Wednesday December 24, 2025 evening, officials confirmed. The Proctor of AMU, Professor Mohd.
Wasim Ali, said the victim was identified as Rao Danish Ali, a teacher at the university’s ABK School. The shooting took place near the university library around 9 pm. “Around 9 pm, we received information that there had been a shooting near the library and that a man had been injured and was being taken for medical treatment. We later learned that the person shot was Rao Danish Ali, a teacher at the ABK School. He was shot in the head and later died at the medical college,” the Proctor told the media.
Professor Ali added that the exact number of shots fired remains unclear, with some reports suggesting three shots and others five. Police reached the scene shortly after the incident, and the injured teacher was rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Neeraj Jadon told ANI that two unidentified men were involved in the shooting. An investigation has been launched, and efforts are underway to trace the assailants.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently stated in the state assembly that law and order in the state has improved significantly. “An atmosphere of security is essential for every person. Today, investment is coming to Uttar Pradesh because of the improved security environment,” he said.
Taking a dig at the Samajwadi Party, the Chief Minister alleged that the party had created disorder and an identity crisis in the state. He also asserted that the rule of law prevails in Uttar Pradesh and claimed that communal riots have ceased.
“There is neither curfew nor riots now. Everything is fine in Uttar Pradesh. This is the new UP,” CM Yogi said.
