Arrested in morning, released by afternoon: Lamborghini crash accused gets bail from Kanpur court

The case saw a twist on Wednesday when a man named Mohan claimed he was the designated driver at the time of the crash, not Mishra.

In the Kanpur Lamborghini accident case, accused Shivam Mishra has been granted bail. The court ordered his release on a Rs 20,000 bond and a Rs 20,000 personal undertaking. The court also rejected the police’s request for his remand. Mishra’s lawyer, Naresh Chandra Tripathi, said the court refused to grant remand and directed that his client be released on the specified bond amounts. Tripathi further alleged that the police were acting under government pressure and claimed that Mishra had been wrongfully arrested.

Arrest After 5 Days, Bail Within 5 Hours
Shivam Mishra was arrested on Thursday in connection with the high-profile Lamborghini crash that had triggered widespread attention in the city. The Uttar Pradesh Police took the 35-year-old into custody over the February 8 accident in the upscale Gwaltoli area around 3 pm, which left six people injured and several vehicles damaged.

Commissioner of Police Raghubir Lal had confirmed to PTI that Mishra was arrested and would be produced before a court. Shortly after his arrest, however, the court granted him bail and rejected the police’s request for remand.

The development comes amid mounting scrutiny over the circumstances surrounding the luxury car crash.

Kanpur Lamborghini Crash
Police said Mishra’s arrest was part of the ongoing investigation into the accident involving a high-end Lamborghini, which allegedly caused significant damage. Authorities are examining whether traffic rules were violated and whether criminal negligence was involved.

The incident took place on Sunday afternoon when a Lamborghini Revuelto, reportedly worth over Rs 10 crore, ploughed into pedestrians and vehicles along the busy Gwaltoli stretch around 3 pm. One of the injured, 18-year-old e-rickshaw driver Mohd Taufeeq, filed a complaint. The defence later claimed that Taufeeq was reluctant to pursue legal action.

The case saw a twist on Wednesday when a man named Mohan claimed he was the designated driver at the time of the crash, not Mishra.

Police dismissed the claim, stating that evidence gathered during the investigation indicates Mishra was driving the car when it struck pedestrians and multiple vehicles. Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as damaged vehicles lined the road and the injured were rushed for medical treatment.
