Bihar | Haryana | Odisha | Rajya Sabha Election

Rajya Sabha Elections Updates: Voting is currently underway today for 11 Rajya Sabha seats. All eyes are specifically on Bihar, Haryana, and Odisha, where a keenly contested battle is expected. In fact, elections were originally scheduled for 37 Rajya Sabha seats this time around, out of which 26 candidates have already been elected unopposed. Now, voting is taking place today for five seats in Bihar, four in Odisha, and two in Haryana.

The electoral process for 37 Rajya Sabha seats across 10 states of the country reaches its final stage today. Out of the 37 seats, 26 candidates have already been elected unopposed. Now, all attention is focused on the 11 seats where voting is being held today because the number of candidates exceeds the available seats. Voting has been underway since 9:00 AM, and the results are scheduled to be declared at 4:00 PM.

The seats where voting is taking place include Bihar (5 seats), Odisha (4 seats), and Haryana (2 seats). For the 5 seats in Bihar, there are 6 candidates in the fray, making the contest extremely interesting. The victory of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar (JDU), Union Minister of State Ramnath Thakur (JDU), BJP National President Nitin Nabin, and Shivesh Kumar (BJP) is considered all but certain. For the fifth seat, there is a direct face-off between NDA-backed Upendra Kushwaha (RLM) and the RJD’s Amarendra Dhari Singh.

In Odisha, too, there are 5 candidates vying for 4 seats. Meanwhile, in Haryana, 3 candidates are in the fray for 2 seats.

Bihar Rajya Sabha Polls: Voting concludes for Bihar Rajya Sabha elections; major setback for the Grand Alliance.
Voting for the Rajya Sabha elections in Bihar has concluded. The Grand Alliance has suffered a major setback in this election, as four of its MLAs did not cast their votes.

According to reports, Faisal Rahman (RJD) did not cast his vote, while three Congress MLAs—Manohar Prasad, Surendra Kushwaha, and Manoj Vishwas—also failed to cast their ballots. Consequently, the vote count for the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) MLAs remained stalled at 37. In contrast, all 202 MLAs belonging to the NDA have cast their votes. Given this scenario, the victory of the NDA’s fifth candidate, Shivesh Kumar, is considered all but certain.

It is estimated that he could secure 38 votes from the NDA, while RJD candidate A.D. Singh is expected to receive 37 votes. With the voting process now concluded, the counting of votes is set to begin shortly, following which the election results will be declared.

Voting for the Rajya Sabha elections in Bihar is scheduled to continue until 4:00 PM. Meanwhile, all 202 MLAs of the NDA have cast their votes, whereas the vote count for the Mahagathbandhan MLAs remains stuck at 37.

According to reports, four MLAs from the Mahagathbandhan have not yet been able to cast their ballots. This group includes Faisal Rahman (RJD), along with three Congress MLAs: Manohar Prasad, Surendra Kushwaha, and Manoj Vishwas. If these four Mahagathbandhan MLAs fail to cast their votes, it would be considered a major setback for both the Congress and the RJD.

Under these circumstances, the victory of the NDA’s fifth candidate, Shivesh Kumar, is considered virtually assured.

Rajya Sabha Elections: ‘We Should Wait,’ Says Tejashwi Amidst Absence of MLAs

Amidst the absence of MLAs from the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan) during the Rajya Sabha elections in Bihar, Leader of Opposition and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav stated, “We should wait. We were short by approximately six votes. If the votes of all opposition parties are combined, the total count stands at 41. As of now, neither have the results been declared, nor has the voting process fully concluded. Wait for the results; everything will become clear.”
