During the visit, Putin and Xi are expected to discuss bilateral ties, strategic cooperation and key international and regional issues
Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin will travel to China from May 19 to 20 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to Russia’s Foreign Ministry.
The ministry said the visit coincides with the 25th anniversary of the signing of the “Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation,” which it described as a foundational document for relations between the two countries.
During the visit, Putin and Xi are expected to discuss bilateral ties, strategic cooperation and key international and regional issues. The two leaders will also attend the official opening ceremony of the “Years of Education of Russia and China for 2026-2027.”
According to the ministry, both sides are expected to sign a Joint Statement and several bilateral agreements during the visit.
The programme will also include a meeting between Putin and Chinese Premier Li Qiang, where discussions will focus on trade and economic cooperation.
Earlier on Thursday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said preparations for Putin’s China visit were nearly complete and official dates would be announced soon.
“This visit is being prepared. Preparations are already complete; we are just putting the finishing touches on them. It will take place very soon,” Peskov said, according to Russian news agency TASS.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump, during his visit to China on Friday, said Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to visit the United States around September 24 as part of a reciprocal visit.
Speaking to reporters during a meeting with Xi in Beijing, Trump thanked the Chinese leadership for hosting him and described the visit as positive.
“I believe on September 24th, or thereabouts, President Xi is going to be coming to the United States, and we will be reciprocal,” Trump said.
Trump concluded his two-day state visit to China on Friday after holding high-level meetings aimed at strengthening ties between Washington and Beijing.
