State unveils initiatives in farming, biotechnology, fisheries, horticulture and livestock sectors; focus on technology, farmer welfare and value addition

Raipur :The Chhattisgarh Government on Friday July 31, 2026 presented an extensive overview of its achievements and future strategy in the agriculture and allied sectors during a high-level press conference held at the Chhattisgarh Samvad Auditorium in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar.

The media briefing was jointly addressed by Agriculture Development and Farmers’ Welfare, Biotechnology, Livestock Development, Fisheries and Horticulture Minister Ramvichar Netam and Agricultural Production Commissioner (APC) Siddharth Komal Singh Pardeshi. Senior departmental officials were also present on the dais.

Addressing journalists, Minister Ramvichar Netam said that the state government is committed to transforming agriculture into a profitable, technology-driven and sustainable occupation. He emphasized that farmers remain at the centre of the government’s development agenda, with continuous efforts being made to improve productivity, ensure better market access and increase rural incomes.

“The objective is not merely to increase agricultural production but to strengthen the entire value chain—from quality seed production and scientific cultivation to processing, storage and marketing,” the minister said.

Focus on Modern Agriculture

Highlighting departmental priorities, Netam said the government is promoting modern farming practices through mechanisation, scientific research and biotechnology. Special emphasis is being placed on climate-resilient agriculture, improved seed varieties and efficient water management to help farmers cope with changing weather conditions.

He added that various initiatives are underway to encourage organic farming, crop diversification and the adoption of innovative agricultural technologies across the state.

Strengthening Allied Sectors

The minister noted that the government considers livestock, fisheries and horticulture as major pillars of rural prosperity. Several programmes have been launched to enhance dairy production, strengthen animal healthcare services, improve fish production and expand horticultural cultivation.

These sectors, he said, are generating additional employment opportunities while helping farmers diversify their sources of income.

Biotechnology and Research

Speaking about biotechnology, officials explained that scientific research is being integrated into agriculture to improve productivity and develop sustainable farming solutions. The department is encouraging innovation through research institutions and collaborations aimed at supporting farmers with advanced agricultural practices.

Welfare-Centric Approach

Agricultural Production Commissioner Siddharth Komal Singh Pardeshi presented a detailed review of departmental activities and achievements. He highlighted improvements in service delivery, implementation of farmer-oriented schemes and measures taken to strengthen agricultural infrastructure.

Pardeshi said that departments are working in close coordination to ensure that government schemes reach beneficiaries efficiently while promoting long-term agricultural development.

Vision for Rural Prosperity

Officials reiterated that the government’s long-term vision is to create a resilient agricultural ecosystem capable of meeting future challenges. Greater use of digital technology, scientific advisory services, improved irrigation facilities and better post-harvest infrastructure are among the key priorities.

The press conference concluded with an interactive session in which senior officials responded to questions from the media regarding ongoing projects, future initiatives and policy implementation across the agriculture and allied sectors.
