Commerce, Management, B.Ed and Science departments join hands to celebrate Raksha Bandhan through creativity and traditional craftsmanship

Raipur : Students turned threads, beads, flowers, decorative materials and traditional motifs into colourful expressions of creativity as Pragati College, Raipur, organised a Rakhi Making Competition on Saturday , August 22, 2026.
The competition was jointly organised by the college’s Commerce and Management, B.Ed and Science departments, bringing students from different streams together ahead of Raksha Bandhan.
Rather than limiting themselves to conventional designs, participants experimented with a variety of materials and themes. Along with individually crafted rakhis, several students presented elaborately decorated thalis incorporating flowers, traditional motifs, diyas and other elements associated with the festival.
The classroom gradually took on the appearance of a creative workshop as students worked on their entries, exchanging ideas while giving individual expression to one of India’s most widely celebrated family traditions.
Students Blend Cultural Tradition With Creativity
Ranjana Thakur, Vice-Principal of Pt. Sundarlal Sharma Higher Secondary School, Sundar Nagar, Raipur, was invited as the judge for the competition.
She examined the students’ creations and appreciated their efforts in combining imagination and craftsmanship with the cultural significance of Raksha Bandhan.
The competition also provided students an opportunity to look beyond the ceremonial aspect of the festival and explore the artistic traditions associated with it. The handmade entries reflected considerable attention to colour combinations, design, presentation and detailing.
Faculty members from the participating departments encouraged the students throughout the activity, while the variety of entries demonstrated how a traditional festival can become a platform for creativity and interaction across academic disciplines.
The event concluded with appreciation for the participants and the presentation of a token of regard to the invited judge.
For Pragati College, the competition was not merely about selecting the most attractive rakhi. It became an occasion to connect students with cultural traditions through hands-on creativity while encouraging imagination, participation and a sense of community on campus.
