LIVE: Baichung Bhutia Attends Closing Ceremony of Sarguja Olympics

Success Comes Only Through Hard Work and Dedication; Youth of Sarguja Possess Immense Potential – Baichung Bhutia

Raipur: On the occasion of the closing ceremony of the Sarguja Olympics 2026, Baichung Bhutia—a legend of Indian football, former captain, and recipient of the Arjuna Award—greeted the gathering with a resounding “Johar Sarguja.” Infusing the athletes with energy and enthusiasm, he shared the mantra of hard work and unwavering resolve, encouraging the youth to carve out their own identities within the world of sports.

Distance Does Not Matter; Passion Is Essential

Recounting his own journey from Sikkim to Sarguja, Bhutia remarked that geographical distances do not stand in the way of talent. Addressing the athletes, he said, “I emerged from a very small village in Sikkim to play for India. My village is even smaller than Sarguja.

Therefore, never harbor the thought that simply because you hail from a remote corner, you cannot become a professional athlete. Cast this doubt out of your minds and have faith in yourselves.”

Appreciation for the Chhattisgarh Government’s Efforts

Baichung Bhutia heaped praise upon the Chhattisgarh government for the high priority it is assigning to sports. Sharing his experiences from the Bastar Olympics, he noted that the state government is providing a robust platform for the youth. “The Chhattisgarh government is prioritizing both its youth and the field of sports. This initiative has provided a stage for the talents of athletes hailing from remote regions, giving various sporting disciplines the opportunities they deserve.”

He expressed confidence that in the near future, Chhattisgarh would produce not only national-level athletes but also Olympic medalists.

Success Achieved Through Sincerity and Hard Work

Encouraging the athletes further, he emphasised that while government support and infrastructure are valuable, individual effort remains the most critical factor. “To achieve success, one must remain focused, make sincere efforts, and never give up until the very end—this is the true key to success.”

He added that the positive outcomes of these government initiatives would soon become evident on the national sports map. Finally, he expressed his gratitude to the Chhattisgarh government, the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare, and the District Administration for inviting him to the Sarguja Olympics.
