We’ll hit century in Assam, double century in West Bengal, says CM Himanta after Phase 1 of polling

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday April 25, 2026 said that every Indian has a stake in the ongoing West Bengal assembly elections as Bangladeshi infiltrators were not only causing demographic change in the State but also spilling over to adjoining states. Himanta Sarma said the BJP will win over 100 of the 126 seats in Assam, and will bag 110 of the 152 seats that went to polls in the first phase of polls in West Bengal.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday April 25, 2026 expressed strong confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) electoral performance, claiming that the party has already secured significant momentum after the first phase of elections.

He asserted that the BJP is on track to achieve major victories in both Assam and West Bengal, stating that public sentiment has shifted in favour of the party after the initial phase of polling.

No repoll has been recommended in any of the polling stations in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu where assembly elections were held on Thursday April 23, 2026, the ECI officials said on Saturday April 25, 2026. While all 234 Assembly seats in Tamil Nadu went to vote in a single phase, 152 seats in West Bengal voted in the first phase.

The remaining 142 seats will go to the polls on April 29. Poll panel officials had earlier cited rules to point out that if webcasting in any of the polling stations is “deliberately” disrupted, a repoll will be ordered.
