CM Vishnu Deo Sai speaks to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma; says people of Chhattisgarh stand in solidarity with flood-affected families

Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Sunday, August 9, 2026, announced ₹5 crore in financial assistance for relief and rehabilitation efforts in flood-ravaged Assam, expressing solidarity with families affected by the natural disaster.

Sai said he spoke over the phone with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma about the serious situation arising from the floods and conveyed Chhattisgarh’s support at a time when Assam continues to grapple with widespread devastation.

“In this difficult time, the people of Chhattisgarh stand in complete empathy and solidarity with their brothers and sisters in Assam,” Sai said in a post on X.

The Chief Minister announced that the Chhattisgarh government had decided to provide ₹5 crore towards relief and rehabilitation operations in the northeastern State.

Sai also invoked Maa Kamakhya while expressing his concern for the people affected by the disaster, praying for the protection of families and an early return of peace and normalcy in Assam.

The assistance comes as Assam continues to battle a severe flood situation. Latest reports indicate that the death toll has reached 99, while approximately 1.47 lakh people remain affected across 12 districts.

The prolonged flooding has affected homes, livelihoods and public infrastructure, placing considerable pressure on rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts. With floodwaters affecting communities across several districts, restoring damaged houses and infrastructure and helping displaced families return to normal life remain major challenges.

Chhattisgarh’s financial assistance represents an instance of inter-State support during a natural disaster, extending help beyond geographical boundaries at a time of humanitarian distress.

Sai’s conversation with Sarma also underlined the coordination between the two State governments as Assam moves from immediate rescue and relief towards the longer process of rehabilitation.

The Chief Minister said the people of Chhattisgarh stood firmly with Assam during the crisis and expressed hope that flood-affected families would soon be able to rebuild their lives.
