Meat sale banned in UP: Yogi Adityanath has completely banned the sale of meat within a radius of five hundred meters of religious places a day before Chaitra Navratri.

The Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued a strict order to close illegal slaughterhouses and ban the sale of meat within 500 meters of religious places. Amrit Abhijat, Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department, has directed all district magistrates, police commissioners and municipal commissioners to immediately close the slaughterhouses and enforce the ban on meat sale near religious places.

Restoration of old orders
Citing the orders issued in 2014 and 2017, the Yogi government has clarified that illegal animal slaughter and meat sale near religious places will be completely banned. To make this decision effective, district level committees have been formed under the chairmanship of District Magistrates. These will include officials from Police, Pollution Control Board, Animal Husbandry Department, Transport Department, Labor Department, Health Department and Food Safety Administration.

Special monitoring on Ram Navami
Special restrictions will be imposed on Ram Navami on 6 April 2025, on which animal slaughter and sale of meat will be completely banned. Under the provisions of the UP Municipal Corporation Act 1959 and the Food Safety Act 2006 and 2011, the Yogi government has directed officials to take strict punitive action against violators.
