Discussion on ‘The Film World of the New Generation’ at Raipur Literature Festival; Deliberations on the Relationship Between Cinema and Literature

Raipur: A discussion on the topic of “The Film World of the New Generation” was organised on Saturday January 24, 2025 at the Shyamlal Chaturvedi Pavilion as part of the Raipur Literature Festival. Actor Satyajeet Dubey, actress T.J. Bhanu, MLA and renowned artist Anuj Sharma, and Suvigya Dubey were present as special guests.

During the discussion, Anuj Sharma said that the Chhattisgarhi language is very simple and easy to understand, and it can be made even more accessible through dialogue. He said that the present time is one of empowered women, where their contribution is continuously increasing in both cinema and society.

Highlighting the film production process, he said that the director plays a key role in cinema, the actor is paramount in theatre, while the writer’s role is decisive in television serials. Citing the example of writer Vinod Kumar Shukla, he said that a writer’s identity is not defined by their attire, but by their works.

Actor Satyajeet Dubey said that emotional elements are essential in any film; only then does it remain alive in the minds of the audience for decades. He said that the literature of Chhattisgarh is extremely rich and there is no shortage of good stories here.

He said that the only need is to encourage the reading public to read. He also said that the folk life and culture of Chhattisgarh contain countless stories that can be presented through cinema.

Actress T.J. Bhanu said that digital media, especially YouTube, has opened doors of opportunity for new artists. Short stories are now reaching a wider audience through various platforms. She said that the joy of a journey lies not only in reaching the destination but in the entire process of the journey itself. She also said that when women take on the role of producers, they take care of the needs and feelings of every person working on the set. She emphasised the importance of visual presentation in cinema.

Suvigya Dubey said that the development of self-confidence in children should begin at home. He urged parents to provide children with opportunities for self-expression, which would help develop their creativity and self-confidence.

During the discussion, speakers shared their views on the growing influence of new-age cinema, literature, and digital media, stating that compelling storytelling, emotional connection, and social responsibility will determine the future direction of cinema.
