Farmers Protest: Farmers are divided! One side is adamant on marching to Delhi, Bharatiya Kisan Union steps down

The farmers’ movement in Greater Noida has now split into two factions. One side is ready to go to Delhi and get arrested, while the other side is of the leaders of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, who are withdrawing from the movement. They have said that they will not march to Delhi.

There is a split among the farmers over the movement of ten organizations to march to Delhi for their demands including giving 10 percent land. The leaders of Bharatiya Kisan Union have come live on social media and said that they will not march to Delhi. At the same time, nine organisations are still engaged in marching to Delhi and getting arrested. On Friday December 6 , 2024 also, more than fifty farmers and women were arrested by the police at Pari Chowk for trying to march to Delhi and sent to jail.

During the panchayat, the representatives of the United Kisan Morcha had announced to take a decision on the further movement by holding a panchayat on December 4 after releasing the farmers who were jailed at the panchayat site. Late night on December 4, the police arrested the farmers present at the protest site and sent them to jail.

Farmers angry at being sent to jail again are marching to Delhi every day and getting arrested. On Friday also, more than fifty farmers and women tried to march to Delhi at Pari Chowk. The police arrested them and sent them to Luksar jail.

At the same time, Pawan Khatana, President of Western Uttar Pradesh of Bharatiya Kisan Union, came live on social media and said that the government had assured to investigate and submit its report in seven days. The government has opened the way for talks. It has been said to wait.

On the other hand, nine farmer organizations of the Morcha have announced to continue the movement with demands including releasing the arrested farmers, giving 10 percent land. Farmer leaders are coming live every day and giving statements to their officials regarding the march to Delhi.
