Government Conducts Survey, Allocates ₹26.24 Crore for Heritage Conservation in Chhattisgarh

Raipur: The Government of India has allocated a total of ₹26.24 crore over the last five years for the identification, conservation and maintenance of monuments, forts and heritage structures in Chhattisgarh, according to a statement made in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday July 31, 2025 by the Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

In a written reply to a question raised by Member of Parliament Phulo Devi Netam, the Minister informed that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has conducted a comprehensive village-to-village survey covering 764 villages in Chhattisgarh between 2014-15 and 2024-25. Out of these, 73 villages were found to have antiquarian remains, underscoring the rich cultural legacy of the State.

The Minister further stated that the Central Government allocated ₹2.89 crore in 2020-21, ₹4.78 crore in 2021-22, ₹7.50 crore in 2022-23, ₹5.94 crore in 2023-24 and ₹5.13 crore in 2024-25 for the conservation and maintenance of centrally protected monuments and sites in Chhattisgarh. The expenditure has matched the allocated amounts each year, indicating full utilization of funds for heritage conservation works.

The Ministry emphasised that these initiatives are part of ongoing efforts to safeguard the nation’s tangible heritage and ensure the preservation of culturally significant monuments and sites for future generations
