Indian High Commission Official Dies in Bangladesh; Body Found Under Suspicious Circumstances

Officials from the Indian High Commission in Chittagong informed the police about the incident on Tuesday May 19, 2026 .

The deceased official, Narendra, had failed to open his room earlier that morning. Consequently, local police were summoned to the scene.

The body of an official from the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh has been recovered under suspicious circumstances. On Tuesday May 2026 , police recovered the body of an Indian national from the office of the Assistant High Commission of India, located in the Khulshi area of ​​Chittagong. The deceased has been identified as Narendra. A native of Haryana, Narendra served as a Security Protocol Officer at the Indian High Commission in Chittagong. The cause of his death remains unknown at this time.

According to reports, 35-year-old Narendra did not open his room door on Tuesday morning. Initially, other officials present at the premises attempted to open the door themselves. When he failed to respond, the police were notified.

Upon arriving at the scene, the police recovered Narendra’s body from a room within the High Commission premises.

The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Narendra; his father’s name is Ram Niwas, and he hailed from Haryana.

Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasan Mohammad Shaukat Ali told the Bangladeshi newspaper The Daily Star that Narendra was employed at the office as a Security Protocol Officer.

According to the CMP Commissioner, embassy officials initially received no response from Narendra’s room, following which they alerted the police.

After the preliminary investigation report was prepared, the body was sent to the morgue at Chittagong Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Officials stated that the investigation has not yet revealed any specific cause of death; the exact reason will be determined only after the post-mortem examination is completed.

CMP Deputy Commissioner (North Zone) Amirul Islam stated that a case of unnatural death would be registered in connection with this incident, and the body would be handed over to officials from the Assistant High Commission of India following the post-mortem examination.
