‘Iran deal not final; if talks fail, bombs will rain down’: Trump’s threat at G7

US President Donald Trump has delivered a stern message regarding the potential agreement with Iran. During a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Trump stated that the deal with Iran is not yet finalized. If the agreement does not meet his approval, the US could revert to the path of military action and bombing.

Amid ongoing talks with Iran, US President Donald Trump has signaled a very tough stance regarding a peace deal. During a bilateral meeting with the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, he remarked that the current Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) concerning Iran has not yet been finalized. If the agreement is not to his liking, the US could return to the option of military action.

President Trump stated that a very strong deal has been drafted following negotiations with Iran. However, he acknowledged that no one yet knows exactly what the final form of the agreement will be. He claimed that most people appear pleased with the deal. He also noted that the alternative to this agreement could be global economic instability and recession, adding that there are some who wish to see a global recession.

Trump called those who desire a global recession “fools,” stating that such individuals fail to grasp the importance of the global economy and stability. Trump also declared, “Number one, the strait will never open,” though he did not clarify which maritime strait he was referring to. Furthermore, Trump dismissed reports of a massive US investment in Iran—specifically the figure of $300 billion.

He described such reports as completely false, stating that the US is not making any $300 billion investment as part of this agreement. Clarifying the status of negotiations with Iran, Trump reiterated that the current MOU has not yet been finalized. He stated that if the final agreement is not to his liking, the US could return to a state of war. He added that, in such a scenario, the option of military action would remain on the table.

This statement by Trump at the G7 summit is being viewed as a direct warning to Iran. While the US wishes to keep the door open for a potential agreement, it is simultaneously signaling that it will not compromise on its strategic interests. The meeting with Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has made it clear that US policy towards Iran continues to operate on a dual approach of diplomacy and pressure.
