Patel has taken over this post in place of Christopher Ray, who had resigned two years ago. The tenure of the FBI director is 10 years, but the tenure of his two predecessors ended prematurely. Earlier, in 2017, President Donald Trump removed James Comey after just four years of his tenure.

He said, “The FBI has a great legacy, but the politicization of the justice system in recent years has weakened the public’s trust. This will end now.” He talked about making the FBI transparent and accountable and said that his goal is to regain the public’s trust.
There was a lot of controversy over Patel’s nomination. His critics say that he has made many political statements about the FBI, which can be a threat to the impartiality of this agency. However, Trump supporters and many Republican leaders supported him.

In the Trump administration, he held important positions such as Chief of Staff of the Department of Defense and Deputy Director of National Intelligence. His appointment is also considered important for Trump, as he is making many big changes for his second term.
