Lucknow: Dr. Rameez Malik, who had a Rs 50,000 reward on his head in the KGMU conversion case, has been arrested from Lucknow. The accused had been absconding for 16 days. Police have also taken his parents into custody. A female resident doctor had accused him of pressuring her to convert and of harassment.

The police have taken major action in the illegal conversion case that surfaced at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow. The main accused in the case, Dr. Rameez Malik, has been arrested from Lucknow. A reward of Rs 50,000 had been announced for his capture, and he had been on the run for the past 16 days.

According to the police, the accused Dr. Rameez Malik was preparing to surrender in court, but the Chowk police in Lucknow arrested him before he could do so. The police had been searching for the accused for a long time.

Dr. Rameez Malik had been absconding for 16 days.

In this case, the police have also arrested the accused Rameez’s 70-year-old father, Salimuddin, and 67-year-old mother, Khatija. The investigation revealed that the accused’s father, Salimuddin, has two wives. The police had already initiated proceedings to attach the properties of the accused Rameez in Lucknow and Pilibhit.

The case began in September last year. The female resident doctor learned that Dr. Rameez was already married. Following this, the victim alleges that Dr. Rameez started harassing her. The accused went into hiding after the matter came to light.

In December 2025, a female resident doctor at KGMU made serious allegations, stating that a resident doctor was pressuring her to convert. The victim is from West Bengal and is pursuing her MD from KGMU. The parents had already been arrested by the police.

The victim’s father had filed a complaint regarding this matter on the Chief Minister’s portal and with the Women’s Commission. Following the complaint, the police launched an investigation and took strict action against the accused. Now, after the arrest of the accused, the police are interrogating him and investigating other aspects of the case.
