Like Interpol, ‘Bharatpol’ is now ready, know how it will work against criminals

Know what is ‘Bharatpol’

Bharatpol portal will work under CBI but the best part is that state police can also directly seek help from Interpol for information about any wanted criminal or fugitive. This will not only make the process real time but will also speed up the investigation.

New Delhi: To curb crime in the country, the police keeps doing new experiments. From increasing the number of policemen to using technology, efforts are made to control crime. Along with this, central agencies like CBI also take action on national security and major crimes. But bringing back criminals who commit crimes in the country and escape abroad and getting them punished is still no less than a challenge for the security agencies. For this, Indian agencies take help of other foreign agencies including Interpol for security .

Why Bharatpol was created

Now the central government is going to take a big step to bring back the criminals and fugitives who fled from the country. The Home Ministry is going to start ‘Bharatpol’ in the country on the lines of Interpol. This portal will work under the CBI but the best thing about it is that the state police can directly take the help of Interpol for information about any wanted criminal or fugitive. In cases of international crimes like cyber crime, financial crime, organized crime, human trafficking, investigation will be expedited through this portal and it will help in gathering real time information.

It is usually seen that it takes a lot of time to issue notice against criminals who commit crimes in the country and flee abroad. But now the CBI has created a hi-tech portal named ‘Bharatpol’ in which not only central agencies like NIA-ED but also the police of states and union territories will share the platform together. Home Minister Amit Shah is going to launch this portal on Tuesday. Its successful trial has already been done.

How will Bharatpol work

The special thing about this portal is that now the state police can send a request directly to Interpol to gather information about a criminal. If Interpol accepts it, then the information can be provided directly to the state police. Its purpose is to make the coordination of Indian security agencies with Interpol easy and dynamic.

At present, to issue a notice to a fugitive criminal, the states have to first request the CBI and it forwards it to Interpol. After this, whatever information or information Interpol sends, CBI has to send it to the state police through a mail letter. This is a very complex process which takes time. This portal has been prepared to make it easier.

Even after ‘Bharatpol’ becomes operational, the right to issue notice will remain with Interpol. CBI is directly connected to Interpol from India’s side. Now if Interpol accepts the request of any state police through the portal, then it can issue a red corner or any other type of notice against that criminal. Apart from this, other information including its location can be shared directly with the states.

How does Interpol work
Interpol can be called International Police in simple language, whose full form is ‘International Criminal Police Organization’. This organization facilitates help and coordination in criminal cases between the security agencies of member countries. Its purpose is to curb international crimes and help in investigation. It was formed in the year 1923, whose headquarters is located in Lyon, France. Interpol currently has 196 member countries, which makes it the second largest organization in the world after the United Nations. India has been its member since the year 1949.
