Shashi Tharoor on Operation Sindoor: Shashi Tharoor strongly defended ‘Operation Sindoor’, saying that its name is not only symbolically impactful but also creates an emotional resonance

Shashi Tharoor on Operation Sindoor: The military action taken by India right after the attack in Pahalgam by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists sent a strong message across the border. This decisive action was named Operation Sindoor. Now the echo of this operation has reached America, where Congress MP Shashi Tharoor told the world that this was not just a response to bullets and bombs but a revenge for the sindoor wiped off the foreheads of those 26 women.

Shashi Tharoor strongly defended ‘Operation Sindoor’ and said that its name is not only symbolically effective, but also creates an emotional resonance. During his address at the National Press Club in Washington DC, Tharoor said, “Sindoor is an auspicious mark worn on the forehead of married women in the Hindu tradition. The terrorists wiped off that sindoor from the foreheads of 26 Indian women and we have taken revenge for that.”

‘Blood for Sindoor’

Tharoor said in clear words, “Just like the Hindi saying ‘blood for blood’, similarly this was ‘blood for sindoor’.” His statement was part of India’s diplomatic strategy in the US where the All Party Delegation is gathering support against terrorism across the world.

Claim of India’s attack on 11 Pakistani airfields

Tharoor also spoke in detail about the effectiveness of Operation Sindoor. He said that India attacked 11 military airbases of Pakistan and caused serious damage to the capabilities of the Pakistan Air Force. He said, “Pakistan itself has publicly admitted that India’s attacks were spread from Hyderabad (Sindh) to Peshawar.”

Destroyed runways and command centers seen in satellite images
The Congress MP also said that in commercially available satellite imagery, large craters and destroyed command centers can be seen on many runways. India’s action was restrained as well as gave a strong message.

Briefing was also given to American lawmakers

To give information on Operation Sindoor and India’s anti-terrorism approach, Indian lawmakers also briefed the members of the bipartisan India Caucus of the US Congress. It included co-chairs like Ro Khanna and Rich McCormick.

What is Operation Sindoor?

India carried out ‘Operation Sindoor’ on May 7. This military action was a retaliation to the attack carried out by Pakistan-backed terrorists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, 2025 in which 26 innocent civilians lost their lives.
