Raipur: Chhattisgarh’s higher education landscape is set for a significant expansion with Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) preparing to establish a campus in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar.
The lease agreement and land registration formalities for the proposed institution were completed on Tuesday September 1, 2026 in the presence of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, clearing an important administrative step towards development of the campus.
The institution will come up on approximately 40 acres in Sector 18 of Nava Raipur. The land has been provided on a 90-year lease to Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal (SVKM), which operates NMIMS.
The state Cabinet had approved the land-allotment proposal on January 21, 2026.
Sai said the government was working to ensure that students from Chhattisgarh did not have to move to major metropolitan cities solely to obtain high-quality modern education.
“Providing quality education, skill development and better employment opportunities to prepare the youth of the state for future requirements is a priority of the government,” the Chief Minister said.
First Batch Targeted Within Two to Three Years
Although development of the institution in its entirety is targeted for completion over the next seven years, the first academic batch is expected to begin considerably earlier — within two to three years.
Once fully developed, the Nava Raipur campus is expected to accommodate approximately 10,000 students.
The proposed institution is expected to offer opportunities in management, skill development and contemporary employment-oriented programmes, widening access to nationally recognised higher education within Chhattisgarh.
The government also expects the campus to attract students, teachers and researchers from outside the state, adding to Nava Raipur’s developing academic ecosystem.
Beyond classroom education, the establishment of NMIMS could create opportunities for closer interaction between academia and industry in areas including skill development, research, innovation and entrepreneurship. Such collaboration is increasingly important as industries seek graduates with practical and employment-oriented skills.
The project also fits into the state’s broader effort to position Nava Raipur as an education and knowledge hub, supported by the planned city’s infrastructure and connectivity.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, Finance Minister O. P. Choudhary, Principal Secretary Subodh Singh, Housing and Environment Secretary Ankit Anand, and Nava Raipur Atal Nagar Development Authority Chief Executive Officer Chandan Kumar were present on the occasion.
With the lease and registration process now completed, the proposed NMIMS campus adds another major higher-education institution to Nava Raipur’s growing academic landscape and could significantly expand the choices available to Chhattisgarh students seeking professional and career-oriented education within the state.
