Raipur: More than 11 lakh houses have been completed under rural housing programmes in Chhattisgarh since the present government assumed office, Deputy Chief Minister and Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Vijay Sharma said on Sunday August 23, 2026 , describing housing for poor and eligible families as one of the government’s highest priorities.
Addressing a press conference in Raipur, Sharma said the government had accelerated construction under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) while also taking up houses sanctioned in previous financial years that had remained incomplete.

First Cabinet Commitment Drives Housing Push
Sharma said the government’s commitment to housing was reflected in its first Cabinet meeting after assuming office, when it resolved to move ahead with more than 18 lakh houses for eligible families.
According to Sharma, the government subsequently prioritised both newly sanctioned houses and older projects that had remained incomplete, making funds available to take construction forward.

The government, he said, is maintaining regular monitoring to ensure that sanctioned houses are completed and handed over to beneficiaries without unnecessary delay.
Sharma said all eligible houses under the 2011 and 2018 eligibility lists have now been sanctioned. Of the total sanctioned housing stock, around 20.40 lakh houses have been completed, while approximately four lakh houses remain under construction.
He stressed that the government’s figures for its tenure require an important qualification: the more than 11 lakh houses completed since it took office do not consist exclusively of houses newly sanctioned by the present government.
They also include houses sanctioned during earlier financial years but left incomplete for various reasons. The present government, he said, provided the required funds and prioritised their completion.

That clarification provides a more accurate picture of the government’s housing performance by distinguishing when a house was sanctioned from when it was actually completed.
The overall housing effort also extends beyond PMAY-G.
Sharma said that of approximately 48,000 houses sanctioned under the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana, around 20,000 have been completed. About 23,000 houses under the PM-JANMAN programme and houses taken up through special projects also form part of the wider housing effort targeting poor, vulnerable and particularly needy families.
