Pahalgam: PM Modi to Chair Key Cabinet Committee Meetings Today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi (PTI)

This will be the second CCS meeting held in the aftermath of the Pahalgam incident

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to chair a series of high-level meetings on Wednesday, including those of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA), and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA).

According to reports, the CCS is scheduled at 11 a.m., amid escalating tensions following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22 that claimed the lives of 26 people. Intelligence inputs have linked the attack to terror groups allegedly backed by Pakistan.

This will be the second CCS meeting held in the aftermath of the Pahalgam incident. The previous one, convened on Wednesday  April 23, 2025  saw India take a series of strong measures against Pakistan, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, closure of the Attari border, cancellation of visas issued to Pakistani nationals, and an immediate recall of Pakistani citizens currently in India.

On Tuesday April 29, 2025 , the Prime Minister held a separate high-level review with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. In that meeting, he is said to have authorised the armed forces to determine the timing, nature, and scale of any retaliatory action.

Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, S. Jaishankar, and top defence officials arrived at the Prime Minister’s residence this morning for the scheduled CCS meeting.

Of particular note is today’s meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs, which last convened in the wake of the 2019 Pulwama terror attack to review the national security environment and frame strategic responses.

As India considers its next steps, these back-to-back meetings reflect the government’s resolve to respond decisively to cross-border terrorism.
