Raipur: The Public Works Department has issued notices to two contractors over incomplete and poor-quality construction, damaged surfacing and maintenance deficiencies on the Sherpar–Manpur–Kohka road. The action follows inspections and scrutiny by officials of the National Highway Circle, with both contractors directed to submit their explanations within 15 days.
Inspections Reveal Construction and Maintenance Deficiencies
The department initiated action after inspections found shortcomings in construction quality, road maintenance, safety measures and compliance with prescribed standards.
The notices concern unfinished and substandard works, along with sections where the road surface has deteriorated. The department noted that the national highway road remains within its performance guarantee period.
Road Damage During Guarantee Period
Damage to the road surface after construction and negligence in maintenance have brought the execution and subsequent upkeep of the project under scrutiny.
The contractors have been asked to respond to the deficiencies identified during the departmental inspections and examination of the works.
Six Sub-Engineers Served Show-Cause Notices
The department has also issued show-cause notices to all six sub-engineers of the National Highway Sub-Division, Balod, over the damaged surface and inadequate maintenance of the road during its performance guarantee period.
Each officer has been instructed to submit a response within three days.
Disciplinary Action May Be Recommended
If the explanations are found unsatisfactory, disciplinary action against the officials concerned will be recommended, the department said.
The notices place both the contractors’ execution of the works and the officials’ oversight of maintenance under departmental scrutiny.
