Such gatherings, she said, offer an opportunity to reconnect with one’s roots, take pride in cultural heritage and pass on enduring life values to future generations.
Her address placed the festival within the wider relationship between agriculture, nature and community life. Nuakhai, she explained, celebrates agricultural traditions, expresses gratitude towards nature and reflects the spirit of togetherness.
Respect for Food Begins with Recognising Farmers’ Labour
Drawing attention to the meaning of food, President Murmu said it represents much more than a means of satisfying hunger. It embodies farmers’ hard work, the generosity of Mother Earth and the invaluable gifts of nature.
“It is our collective responsibility to respect food, acknowledge the contributions of our farmers, and protect our natural resources,” the President said.
Her message connected the gratitude expressed during Nuakhai with everyday responsibility towards those who produce food and the natural resources that sustain agriculture. Respecting this relationship, she underlined, is a shared obligation.
Youth Must Connect Personal Aspirations with National Goals
Addressing the large number of young people present, President Murmu urged them to nurture a strong desire to innovate, create something better and establish an identity of their own.
Circumstances and challenges may differ, she said, but the determination to contribute meaningfully should guide their efforts. When individual aspirations are aligned with collective and national goals, they become a force for the country’s progress.

She advised young people to dream big, broaden their horizons and maintain high standards of conduct. Service to society and the nation, she said, should remain central to their pursuits.
The President also encouraged them to approach every endeavour with honesty, integrity and sensitivity, making ethical conduct an essential part of achievement.
Nation-Building Depends on Millions of Sincere Efforts
President Murmu emphasised that national development is shaped by the daily contributions of citizens as well as major decisions.
She said nation-building also rests on the small, sincere efforts of millions of people, highlighting the importance of individual responsibility in achieving shared goals.
Urging the youth to balance achievement with character, she called upon them to combine knowledge with humility, ambition with ethical values and success with a spirit of service.
These qualities, she said, would strengthen their contribution to the vision of a Viksit Bharat, connecting personal progress with the well-being of the wider society.
Women’s Equal Participation Essential for Viksit Bharat
Welcoming the participation of a large number of women in the Nuakhai Milan Samaroh, the President said their equal involvement is indispensable to India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
She urged women to participate actively in national and social affairs, emphasising that their progress benefits families, communities and the country.
The President also called upon men, particularly young men, to create an environment in which their sisters and daughters can pursue their dreams without barriers.
Respect for women, she stressed, must be evident in behaviour, attitudes and everyday conduct, extending beyond verbal expressions of support.
Development Replaces the Darkness of Terror
Referring to Chhattisgarh, President Murmu welcomed the movement of young people away from Naxalism and towards the mainstream.
She acknowledged the combined role of Central and State government efforts and the determination of the young people themselves in bringing about this change.
“The light of development is now replacing the darkness of terror,” the President said.
She noted that this transformation is improving the well-being of young people and their families while accelerating the development of Chhattisgarh and the country.
