Raipur: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Sunday described Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital as an outstanding example of compassion and selfless service, as the institution celebrated the milestone of 45,000 successful surgeries on children at a programme in Nava Raipur.

The occasion also marked the groundbreaking ceremony for a proposed nursing college building and dormitory for tribal students, connecting the hospital’s healthcare mission with new opportunities in education and employment.

Union Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya attended the programme and appreciated the hospital’s service-oriented work. Deputy Chief Ministers Arun Sao and Vijay Sharma and Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal were also present.

‘Service to Humanity Is the Greatest Duty’

Addressing the gathering, Sai said the milestone represented far more than a medical achievement. Behind each successful surgery, he observed, was a child given another opportunity to lead a healthy life and a family whose anxiety had been replaced by hope.

“Service to humanity is the greatest duty. Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital has brought this principle to life through its work,” the Chief Minister said.

He congratulated the office-bearers of the Sri Sathya Sai Health and Education Trust, doctors, nursing staff and the entire hospital team for their contribution.

Sai said a child’s health was among a family’s greatest sources of happiness. When a child faced a serious illness, the emotional burden extended to the entire household.

Providing treatment free of cost at such a difficult time, he added, was an expression of compassion that brought relief to families alongside medical care.

“Completing 45,000 successful surgeries on children is not merely a major medical achievement; it is an exceptional example of compassion, humanity and selfless service,” Sai said.

The Chief Minister said the institution’s work had helped restore confidence and happiness to thousands of families.

He emphasised that healthcare also had an important human dimension: the reassurance offered to worried parents, the trust built between families and medical teams, and the care extended throughout treatment.

The hospital’s commitment, he said, demonstrated how medical services could strengthen sensitivity, confidence and human values within society.

During the visit, Sai and Mandaviya met children and their family members at the hospital and presented fruit baskets.

Mandaviya also commended the institution’s service activities during the programme.

Nursing College to Open Doors for Tribal Students

Welcoming the proposed nursing college and dormitory, Sai said the initiative would create opportunities for young people from tribal communities to pursue professional healthcare education.

He particularly highlighted its potential to help young women access quality nursing training, become financially independent and build careers in health services.

“The nursing college will give young people from tribal areas, especially our daughters, new opportunities to advance in healthcare education and build a brighter future,” the Chief Minister said.

The proposed institution, he added, would combine career preparation with the values of service and responsibility towards society.

The dormitory forms part of the planned facilities for tribal students pursuing their education at the college.

Trained Personnel Essential to Better Healthcare

Sai linked the initiative to the growing requirement for trained nurses and other healthcare workers as the state expands medical infrastructure.

He said the government was working to improve access to health services in remote and tribal areas. Alongside buildings, equipment and modern treatment facilities, the availability of skilled and compassionate personnel was essential.

The proposed nursing college, he said, could contribute to developing the workforce needed to support these services while creating professional opportunities for tribal youth.

“Strengthening healthcare requires modern medical facilities as well as sensitive and well-trained health personnel,” Sai said.

He added that quality training would enable students to become self-reliant while contributing to the care of others.

Partnership in Expanding Access to Care

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to accessible healthcare, Sai said quality services should reach every citizen, particularly poor families, disadvantaged communities and people living in distant areas.

He acknowledged the role of service institutions in supporting this objective and said their participation strengthened public efforts to improve healthcare access.

The programme brought together recognition of the hospital team’s work and the beginning of a new educational initiative, with the proposed nursing college intended to extend opportunities to the next generation of healthcare professionals.
