Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Monday, November 2, described the extradition of Saurabh Chandrakar, a key accused in the Mahadev online betting app case, as a major success for central investigating agencies. He said Chandrakar’s questioning could help uncover the alleged betting network and identify those who reportedly received “protection money”.
Chandrakar was brought to India from Oman on Sunday by a specially deputed Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team, according to reports citing the agency. His return marks a significant development in the ongoing investigations into the alleged illegal betting syndicate.
Speaking to the media in Raipur, Sai said Chandrakar had remained abroad for a considerable period and that the CBI had been making sustained efforts to bring him back. He credited coordination between the CBI and other central agencies for securing his extradition.
“Saurabh Chandrakar’s extradition to India is a major achievement. I commend the efforts of the CBI and all central investigating agencies involved,” Sai said.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that questioning Chandrakar would help investigators obtain important information about the alleged illegal operations of the Mahadev betting app and the people associated with its network.
He said a crucial aspect of the investigation would be establishing who allegedly received protection payments and what roles different individuals may have played in facilitating the operation.
“Questioning Saurabh Chandrakar will help reveal who received protection money from the alleged illegal betting business and the roles of those connected with the case,” the Chief Minister said.
Sai said the information emerging from the questioning could provide fresh leads and bring greater clarity to several important aspects of the case. He reiterated his appreciation for the agencies’ sustained efforts to secure Chandrakar’s return and take the investigation forward.
