Sextortion gang: West Zone Cyber Cell and Kalyanpur Police have busted a sextortion gang that blackmailed people by making nude calls on WhatsApp. Police arrested nine people including a woman involved in the gang and sent them to jail on Saturday. The gang had opened a fake account in Dehradun in the name of a woman from Saharanpur. In which Rs 16 lakh came from various accounts within two months. Police have frozen the account. The DCP has announced a reward of 25 thousand to the police team that made the arrest.
According to the DCP, Sandhya used to make nude video calls to people on WhatsApp. When the person on the other side picked up the phone, she would record the video and take a screenshot. Then the game of blackmailing started from here. Other henchmen of the gang would call the victim sometimes posing as police and sometimes as an officer of an investigation agency. A huge amount was extorted from them. The gang had opened a fake bank account to demand the blackmailing money.
This account was opened in the name of Varsha, wife of Surendra, a resident of Chutmalpur, Saharanpur, in the Canara Bank branch in Dehradun. When the police investigated the details, it was found that Rs 16 lakh had come into this account within two months, which was withdrawn from the ATM. Only Rs 34 thousand were left in the account, which has been frozen.
