The arrival of the 31st instalment of the Mahtari Vandan Yojana ahead of Raksha Bandhan has added to the festive preparations of women across Chhattisgarh, providing them with ₹1,000 in direct financial assistance at a time when household spending typically rises.
For Prem Kunwar Shyam, a resident of Gudumdeori gram panchayat in Marwahi development block, the money arriving in her account before the festival has brought both relief and happiness.
Expressing gratitude to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Prem Kunwar affectionately referred to him as ‘Vishnu Bhaiya’, describing the instalment as a Raksha Bandhan gift.
“This gift from Vishnu Bhaiya has added to our Raksha Bandhan happiness. The Mahtari Vandan Yojana gives us financial support every month. I am very thankful to the Chief Minister,” Prem Kunwar said.
₹1,000 That Helps With Everyday Choices
Prem Kunwar said the ₹1,000 she receives every month helps meet routine household requirements. With the latest instalment reaching her before Raksha Bandhan, she plans to use the money towards purchasing rakhi, sweets and other essentials for her family.
For her, the significance of the payment goes beyond festival shopping. Having a regular amount deposited directly into her account gives her some financial space to decide how the money should be used according to the family’s immediate needs.
