Woman becomes victim of triple talaq, brother-in-law sent to jail for performing halala

Kanpur: In Gwaltoli, Kanpur, a woman was given triple talaq by her husband. Then the mother-in-law, taking the help of Sharia law, pressured the victim for halala. After this, the husband pushed the wife into the room of his brother-in-law. The brother-in-law raped her in the name of halala. The police registered a report on September 11 and sent the accused husband and brother-in-law to jail on Thursday September12 .

According to the victim, her Nikah took place on October 26,2020. The in-laws used to harass her for dowry. When a complaint was made to the police, both the parties were called to the women’s police station and a compromise was made on January 23,2024. The in-laws brought the victim home and started threatening her.

After this, on the instigation of the sister-in-law, mother-in-law and father-in-law, the husband gave triple talaq. She was locked in a room with the children. She was raped daily. On June 11, 2024, the mother-in-law, citing Sharia law, told the victim that triple talaq is considered valid in Sharia, you will have to perform the ritual of Halala. It is alleged that after this the woman was pushed into the room of her brother-in-law where he raped her.

According to ADCP Central Mahesh Kumar, the investigation is going on. Whoever is found guilty will go to jail.

This is to inform you that the practice of nikah halala is performed by a small minority of Muslims. It is a controversial practice that involves a woman marrying another man after being divorced by her husband, and then getting divorced from the second husband to remarry her first husband
