CJI Dy Chandrachud: ‘Meeting of judges with leaders does not have any effect on decisions’, also answered the question of holidays

Chief Justice DY Chandrachud once again commented on the issue of workload of judges. Chandrachud said that judges do not roam around even during holidays but remain fully dedicated to their work.

Mumbai : The Chief Justice was speaking during a program in Mumbai. He said that unlike other fields, the workload and complexity of the judges increases as one progresses in the judiciary. The CJI said that our judges do not roam around or show negligence even during holidays, they are fully committed to their work. He said that the orders passed by them will define the country for decades, but the judges hardly get time to think or read about the law (apart from their work).

Judicial work The government itself passes the budget for the construction of new buildings
The CJI said that the government itself passes the budget for the construction of new buildings. For this, the Chief Justice will also have to meet the Chief Minister. When I was the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court. Apart from this, I used to work for the administrative committee of Bombay High Court. There is a tradition in the states that when someone becomes the Chief Justice for the first time, he meets the Chief Minister. For the second time, the Chief Minister meets the Chief Justice.

These meetings have different agendas. The CJI said, what was discussed in the meeting. The Chief Minister never says that a discussion was held regarding any pending matter. He also knows that both of us have different areas. At the same time, administrative relations remain between the High Court and the government. Similarly, work is done at the Centre as well. But we are mature enough to know that this will not affect judicial work or decisions.
