Raipur: The issue of supply of substandard gunny bags to the paddy procurement centers of the state echoed in the Chhattisgarh Assembly on Monday December 16, 2024 . The opposition alleged corruption of crores under its guise. There was a demand for an inquiry into this matter by the legislative party committee, for which the Food Minister was not ready. Angered by this, the opposition MLAs walked out of the House.
On the first day of the winter session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, the opposition showed sharp attitude on paddy procurement and gunny bags in the House. Leader of Opposition Dr. Charan Das Mahant raised this issue through a calling attention notice. He said that the gunny bags sent to the procurement centers, whose weight is being told to be 480 grams, are actually 580 grams, in this way 100 grams less paddy is being taken per quintal. There was a demand for an inquiry into this matter by the legislative party committee. In response, Food Minister Dayaldas Baghel denied any such irregularity and said that there was no need for an inquiry. Dissatisfied with the minister’s answer, all the Congress MLAs walked out of the proceedings of the House, raising slogans against the government.
