Raipur: Reiterating its unwavering commitment towards the conservation of important water sources and historical ponds of the city, an active team of Green Army on Friday April 11 , 2024 met Mayor Mrs. Meenal Choubey and Chairman in a cordial manner. During this important meeting, the team submitted a detailed memorandum expressing deep concern over the current condition of about 150 ponds in the capital city. The memorandum emphasised the need for concrete and long-term measures to deepen these life-giving water bodies, scientific water purification, priority removal of illegal encroachments around them, ensuring regular and effective cleaning, and most importantly, to prevent the contaminated water of the city drains from going directly into these ponds.
State President of Green Army, CA Amitabh Dubey personally apprised the Mayor of the current pathetic condition of some of the major and historical ponds of the city, including Budha Talab, Maharaj Bandh Talab, Sheetla Talab, Gajraj Bandh Talab, Raja Talab and Sarju Bandh Talab. He underlined the ecological and social importance of these important water bodies and urged for quick and effective action to save them. He also highlighted the historical importance of these ponds and their contribution to the water supply of the city.

On the occasion, a delegation of as many as 50 dedicated members of the Green Army held an in-depth and constructive discussion with the Mayor and Chairman on the serious water problem of Raipur city, the widespread use of single-use plastic which has become a threat to the environment, increasing pollution levels, the need for effective waste management, the necessity of rainwater harvesting, extensive tree plantation campaign to keep the city green, and other burning issues related to the environment as a whole. The team also shared its practical suggestions to deal with these challenges.
Mayor Mrs. Meenal Chaubey heartily appreciated this conscious and dedicated effort of the Green Army and expressed her firm commitment towards water and environmental conservation and readily agreed to work together with the Green Army. She assured to take positive and timely action on all the important issues raised by the Green Army. Active participation of citizens and voluntary organisations was described as important in improving the environment of the city.
On this occasion, Raipur District President Gurdeep Tuteja, Monika Bagrecha, Dr. Bharti Shrivastava, and Vineet Sharma and prominent members were also present, who enriched the discussion with their valuable views.
