A 3-year-old child infected with HMPV virus in Chhattisgarh
Korba: HMPV virus: The first case of HMPV virus has been reported in Chhattisgarh. The report of a 3-year-old child in Korba has come positive, after which the health department has come on alert mode. It is a matter of relief that the child is healthy and has been kept under strict supervision of doctors. Earlier, cases of this virus have been found in Karnataka and Gujarat, although no death has been reported so far.

Bilaspur District Health and Medical Officer Dr. Pramod Tiwari said that the three-year-old son of a person living in the neighboring district Korba was complaining of cold, cough and fever. When his health did not improve, he was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Bilaspur on Monday January 27, 2025.
He said that the child’s sample was sent to AIIMS Raipur for testing as there was a possibility of him being infected with Human Metapneumovirus. In the report received from AIIMS, the child has been found infected with HMPV. The infected child has been kept in the ICU, isolated from other patients in the hospital, where he is being treated under the supervision of pediatrician Dr. Sushil Kumar.
