They probably wanted to see someone else win in India…’, Trump again targeted Biden administration over USAID funding

US President Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump, while defending DOGE’s decision to stop US funding of $20 million to India, said, “Why are we giving $20 million to India? They have a lot of money. They are among the highest tax-levied countries in the world. Their tariffs are also very high. I respect India and their Prime Minister very much. But why give $20 million for voter turnout?

Florida: President Donald Trump has once again reacted to the decision to stop US funding to increase voting turnout in India. He said, “Why do we need to spend $20 million to increase voting percentage in India?”

Addressing the FII Priority Summit in Miami, Florida, Trump said, “Why do we have to spend so much money in India? $20 million to increase voting percentage? I think they (Biden administration) wanted to see someone else win in India. We have to talk to the Indian government about this.”

Let us inform you that earlier Trump had defended DOGE’s decision to stop US funding of $20 million. Questioning the need to give such help to a country like India, he had said that why are we giving $20 million to India? They have a lot of money. They are among the countries that levy the highest taxes in the world. Their tariffs are also very high. I respect India and their Prime Minister a lot, but why give $20 million for voter turnout?

Let us tell you that on February 16, DOGE, led by Elon Musk, had announced to stop funding to various countries, which also included an amount of $20 million to promote voting in India. DOGE had said that the US has decided to cut the $20 million program created to increase voting percentage in India. Actually, the US used to give $20 million to increase voter participation during elections in India. But now India will not get this funding. It is known that Trump has given statements about India’s increased tariffs many times. He has said that India is among the countries with the highest tariffs
