IMF New Conditions On PAK: When tensions between India and Pakistan were at their peak after the Pahalgam terror attack, the IMF had approved financial aid to Pakistan, but now the global body has given it a big blow by imposing 11 new conditions before the next installment.

After the tension between India and Pakistan increased after the Pahalgam terror attack, now there is a ceasefire (Indo-PAK Ceasefire). When attacks were taking place on the border from both India and Pakistan, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had earned a bad name in the world by approving a loan of 1 billion dollars to provide financial help to the country harboring terrorism, but now it has probably understood the real game of Pakistan and the global body has imposed 11 new conditions (IMF New Conditions on Pakistan) before releasing the next installment of the bailout. Not only this, a big warning has also been issued for Pakistan.

Fulfill the conditions, otherwise you will not get the next installment…’

After giving a huge loan to Pakistan amid India-Pakistan tension, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is now probably feeling the danger of sinking its money. According to a PTI report, due to this, the IMF has imposed 11 new conditions on Pakistan for releasing the next installment of its bailout package and after this the total conditions on Pak have increased to 50. Pakistan has been told clearly by the IMF that if these conditions are not fulfilled, then the next installment will not be released.

Supported during Indo-Pak tension

Recently, when the armies of India and Pakistan were face to face on the border and drone and missile attacks were being carried out from both sides, at such a time the International Monetary Fund had approved the release of an installment of about 1 billion US dollars to Pakistan under the existing Extended Fund Facility. Along with this, the IMF has also approved an additional $1.4 billion for Climate Resilience Loan for Pakistan under the existing $7 billion bailout package. With this, the total assistance received by Pakistan from the IMF becomes $2.4 billion. After this approval, global anger erupted against the IMF and it was criticized all over the world.

Pakistan was burdened with these conditions
If we look at the new conditions brought by the IMF for Pakistan, these include Parliament’s approval of the record federal budget of 17.6 trillion Pakistani rupees, while a condition of imposing high surcharge on electricity bills has also been placed. Apart from this, currently, Pakistan’s import rules allow import of only 3-year-old cars, this includes increasing it to 5 years. Additionally, the government will have to prepare a roadmap to phase out incentives for special tech zones and industrial parks by 2035. Its report is to be presented by the end of the year.

These are the key conditions in the energy sector:

*Issuing notification of annual electricity tariff revision by July 1, 2025.

*Half-yearly gas tariff adjustment by February 15, 2026.

*Bringing a permanent law to implement the Captive Power Levy Ordinance by the end of May.

*Removing the limit of Rs 3.21 per unit on Debt Service Surcharge by the end of June.

This warning was given to PAK
The report quoted Express Tribune as saying that along with imposing 11 new conditions, a clear warning has also been issued for Pakistan in the IMF report. It says that if the tension between India and Pakistan continues or increases further, then its effect can directly increase the risk to the fiscal, external and reform goals of the program. The IMF warning has come in the wake of India’s Operation Sindoor after the Pahalgam terrorist attack.

Let us tell you that after the death of 26 tourists in the Pahalgam attack, India retaliated and attacked by air strike under this operation and more than 100 terrorists were reported to have been killed in it. After this, on May 10, India and Pakistan agreed on a ceasefire.
