Prithviraj Panoli, father of social media influencer Sharmistha Panoli, spoke to news agency IANS about his daughter’s case. He spoke openly about the comments related to Operation Sindoor, college suspension and legal battle. Prithviraj said that he is fighting this case completely legally.
He told that Sharmistha has been suspended by her college, Sebesta, due to which her studies have been affected. She missed one or two exams, but he hopes that the law college will help her. Sharmistha’s internship is going on and the suspension has not affected it.
He said that he did not know much about Sharmistha’s social media posts earlier. He lives in Kolkata, while Sharmistha lives in Pune. He said, ‘I am not active on Instagram. I am old-fashioned, so I did not like her post, but the daughter explained that her followers like such language.’
He said that Kangana Ranaut had also commented on the language used by children these days in an interview. Prithviraj said that he came to know about Sharmishtha’s comment on Operation Sindoor later. By the time he came to know, the post had gone viral.
Prithviraj Panoli said, ‘Sharmishtha did not know the meaning of the words she used. She posted after looking at social media and mixed abusive words for Pakistani and Indian soldiers. She should have thought before posting so that this problem would not have arisen. Sharmishtha is a proud Hindu and worships Goddess Saraswati and Lakshmi. The family had recently visited the Durga temple in Bhutan.’
Sharmishtha’s father said, ‘In the last three-four days, we have received calls from more than 50 Hindu organisations. Many people have tried to meet Sharmishtha in jail. We are fully aware of their support.’ He said that they do not want to make it political, but are grateful for the support of Hindu organisations.
Prithviraj clarified that his fight is completely legal. He said, “We are not expecting any political support. We will move forward with the advice of lawyers.” Social media influencer Sharmistha Panoli got interim bail from the Calcutta High Court on Thursday June 5 , 2025 . Justice Raja Basu has granted her bail imposing many conditions on Sharmistha, which she will be bound to follow.
