Raipur: Chhattisgarh has once again made a strong presence at the national level in the Swachh Survey 2024-25 of the Government of India.

The result of the excellent performance of the urban bodies of the state so far is 115 cities out of the 169 included in the survey, 115 cities have significantly improved their ranking. In the national assessment of cleanliness, 25 cities of Chhattisgarh have been included in the top-100 among 4,566 cities across the country, which is a big jump compared to last year, when only 16 cities were able to make in the top-100.

62 urban bodies of the state have increased their status in the garbage-free * rating, while the number of cities receiving single, three and five stars has increased from 71 to 114. Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur has this time received the highest rating of seven stars, up from five stars. Raipur has received this honour in the garbage-free city category, along with this it has also got the status of Water + city in cleanliness.

This time Bilaspur, Korba and Bhilai Nagar – these three municipal corporations have moved from ODF++ to Water + category. 163 urban bodies of the state have received ODF ++ status, including bodies like Kirandul and Bhatapara Nagar Palika and Kunra Nagar Panchayat, which were earlier only in the ODF category.

Sitapur Nagar Panchayat has also moved beyond ODF+ to ODF++ status.

In the last one and a half years, 62 urban bodies have improved the Garbage-Free Cities Star Rating through their continuous efforts. Bilaspur and Ambikapur have increased their three star level to five stars, while Bhilai Nagar, Jagdalpur Municipal Corporation, Jamul Municipality and Gharghoda Nagar Panchayat have now received three stars, moving from single star status for 2023-24.

At the same time, cities like Dhamtari, Shibrinarayan and Rajpur, which were not in the star rating in the previous survey, have directly entered the three star category. Due to special efforts in the field of cleanliness and beautification, 52 urban bodies of the state have now got single star status by upgrading from no star.

This time, a big improvement has been seen in the national ranking of many urban bodies. Simga, which was ranked 649th at the national level in the year 2023-24, has achieved 95th rank this time. Similarly, Jashpur has moved from 637th to 91st, Rajpur from 630th to 63rd and Gharghoda from 616th to 71st position.

Bhilai-Charoda improved its ranking from 587 to 68, Dornapal from 557 to 81, Dantewada from 552 to 70, Jagdalpur from 461 to 55, Mungeli from 447 to 86, Kawardha from 430 to 77, Kunkuri from 426 to 84, Durg from 314 to 80, Rajnandgaon from 268 to 46, Bhilai Nagar from 267 to 22, Chhura from 230 to 76, Pratappur from 173 to 62, Balrampur from 65 to 53 and Raipur rose from 12th rank to 4th position.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has described this achievement the result of collective efforts of local bodies and citizens.

CM Sai said that the urban government, state government and central government together are constantly striving to make the cities clean and beautiful with innovations. He expressed confidence that in the coming time, the ranking of Chhattisgarh’s cities will improve further and current success rate will inspire all the urban bodies even more.

Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration and Development Minister Arun Sao lauded the urban bodies that performed excellently in the survey and said that in the financial year 2024-25, an amount of Rs 7,400 crore was released by the state government for urban development and cleanliness, the positive results of which are being seen.

He informed that the department had directed the commissioners of all municipal corporations and chief municipal officers of municipalities and Nagar Panchayats to regularly monitor the cleanliness work by visiting every morning with their subordinates Minister Sao said that both these initiatives of the department have played an important role to achieve this success.
