US Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard has decided to resign from President Donald Trump’s cabinet. She submitted her resignation on Friday, explaining her reasons. Her resignation will be effective June 30, 2026.
US Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard has decided to resign from President Donald Trump’s cabinet. She made this decision due to her husband, Abraham Williams’s, serious illness. According to media reports, Abraham has been diagnosed with a very rare form of bone cancer, following which Gabbard has decided to step back from public life.
According to an exclusive report by Fox News, Tulsi Gabbard announced her resignation during a meeting with President Trump in the Oval Office on Friday. It is reported that June 30, 2026, will be her last working day.
In her formal resignation letter, obtained by Fox News, Gabbard wrote, “I am deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in me and the opportunity to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence for the past year and a half. Unfortunately, I must tender my resignation effective June 30, 2026.”
She further wrote that her husband, Abraham, was recently diagnosed with a very rare form of bone cancer and will face serious challenges in the future. Gabbard said, “At this time, I feel it necessary to step away from public service to be with him and support him fully in this difficult battle.”
Tulsi Gabbard also wrote an emotional message to her husband in her letter. She said, “Abraham has always been my strong support throughout our 11 years of marriage. He has stood by me through every challenge, during my deployment to the Joint Special Operations Mission in East Africa, during numerous political campaigns, and now serving in this position.”
She said that her husband’s love and support have always given her strength, and she cannot abandon him in such a time. Gabbard wrote, “I cannot in good conscience expect him to face this battle alone while I continue in this highly responsible position.”
Recalling her tenure, Tulsi Gabbard said she took significant steps to increase transparency and accountability within the US intelligence system. She claimed that under her leadership, cuts to intelligence agency spending resulted in savings of over $700 million annually for American taxpayers. She also took action to eliminate DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) programs within the intelligence community.
During her tenure, Gabbard declassified over half a million government documents related to the Trump-Russia investigation and the assassinations of John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy.
She also declassified documents related to the Crossfire Hurricane investigation, through which she alleged that Obama administration officials attempted to undermine Trump’s first victory by politically exploiting intelligence related to Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Tulsi Gabbard also formed a special group, the Weaponization Working Group, to investigate alleged misuse of government agencies by the Biden administration. Under her leadership, the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) prevented more than 10,000 individuals associated with narco-terrorism from entering the United States in 2025 and placed more than 85,000 suspects on the terror watchlist.
