Adequate petrol and diesel stocks available across the state; public advised not to pay heed to misinformation: Chhattisgarh Government

In Short

  • State has stock of 3.94 Crore litres of petrol and 8.09 Crore litres of diesel*
  • Regular supply of petrol and diesel continues across the state

Raipur: Chhattisgarh government on Saturday May 23, 2026 assured that has sufficient reserves of petrol and diesel, and there is no cause for panic buying or unnecessary stockpiling. Fuel supply and distribution across the state remain normal, with priority being given to farmers and essential services.

It is worth mentioning that the state currently has a stock of more than 3.94 crore litres of petrol and above 8.8 crore litres of diesel. A total of 2,516 petrol pumps are operational across the state for the supply of petrol and diesel. According to the Food Department, in view of the increased demand for diesel due to the harvesting of the Rabi crop and preparations for the Kharif season, continuous supply is being made to districts as required from the oil company depots located at Lakholi and Mandir Hasaud (Raipur) and Gopalpur (Korba).

This is to inform you that on May 22, 2026 alone, the state received 21.83 lakh litres of petrol and more than 1.29 crore litres of diesel. In addition, the regular daily supply of petrol and diesel is continuing uninterrupted.

The Food Secretary had also chaired a review meeting with officials of all oil companies on May 20, 2026 to assess the availability and distribution system of fuel in the state. During the meeting, instructions were issued to ensure immediate supply from depots to any petrol pumps facing the possibility of stock depletion so that consumers in any area do not face inconvenience.

The state government has imposed a ban on the sale of petrol and diesel in drums and ‘jerrycans’ at all petrol and diesel pumps across the state from May 22, 2026. However, farmers and essential services identified by district collectors have been exempted from this restriction.

Hence, the state government has appealed to citizens not to indulge in panic buying or hoarding due to any kind of rumour or misinformation. All necessary arrangements have been made at the state level to ensure smooth availability of petrol and diesel to consumers as per requirement.
