Washington, DC: US President Donald Trump has shared a digitally altered image depicting himself alongside the four American presidents featured on Mount Rushmore.
The image, posted on Trump’s Truth Social platform, places him beside George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln, whose faces are carved into the South Dakota monument. Trump did not include any caption or comment with the post.
Mount Rushmore National Memorial, located in Keystone, South Dakota, features 60-foot-tall sculptures of the four presidents. The monument was designed to represent the founding, expansion, development, and preservation of the United States.
Sculptor Gutzon Borglum selected the four leaders to symbolize the first 150 years of American history. Washington represents the nation’s founding, Jefferson its expansion, Roosevelt its growth and global influence, and Lincoln its preservation during the Civil War.
The idea of adding Trump to Mount Rushmore dates back to 2018, when he reportedly told South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem that it was his dream to have his likeness carved into the monument. Since then, he has repeatedly expressed support for the proposal .
Trump publicly raised the idea in 2020. In Congress, supporters including Florida Representative Anna Paulina Luna have introduced legislation directing the Department of the Interior to explore adding Trump’s image to the memorial.
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and other officials have also suggested that there may be enough space on the monument to accommodate another presidential figure.
