Korba family saves every month as rooftop solar powers a new chapter of energy independence

Raipur: The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and being implemented in Chhattisgarh under the guidance of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, is steadily transforming households through clean and affordable energy. The initiative is helping families reduce electricity expenses while promoting renewable energy and contributing to the vision of a self-reliant and environmentally sustainable India.

One such success story comes from Pathripara in Korba, where Lara Tirkey and her husband Anjulus Tirkey have experienced the tangible benefits of adopting rooftop solar power. Motivated by the scheme, the family installed a 3-kilowatt rooftop solar system at their residence. Since the system became operational in September 2025, their monthly electricity bill has consistently remained zero.

Before installing the solar unit, the family used to spend ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 every month on electricity. With the transition to solar energy, that recurring expense has been completely eliminated, providing significant savings and strengthening the household budget.

According to Lara Tirkey, the family received a combined subsidy of ₹1.08 lakh from the Central and State Governments, making the installation of the rooftop solar system affordable and hassle-free. She said the financial assistance enabled them to embrace clean energy without facing any economic burden.

She believes the scheme offers benefits beyond reducing electricity bills. By switching to solar power, her family is also contributing to environmental conservation by lowering dependence on conventional energy sources and helping reduce carbon emissions.

Encouraging other citizens to take advantage of the initiative, Lara Tirkey said that installing rooftop solar systems is an investment in both financial security and environmental responsibility. She expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai for introducing a programme that is bringing meaningful and lasting improvements to the lives of ordinary families.

As more households adopt renewable energy under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, Chhattisgarh is steadily moving towards a cleaner, greener and more energy-secure future.
