CM honours Padma Shri filmmaker; discussions span Indian history, culture, cinema and Chhattisgarh’s tribal heritage

Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Friday August 14, 2026 met renowned filmmaker, actor and Padma Shri awardee Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi at the Chief Minister’s residence office in Raipur, where the two discussed Indian history, culture, literature and cinema.

Sai welcomed Dwivedi and felicitated him with a shawl and a memento, appreciating his contribution to taking India’s historical and cultural heritage to wider audiences through cinema and television.

The Chief Minister said Indian cinema and television have played an important role in introducing younger generations to the country’s historical and cultural legacy. He said Dwivedi’s body of work stood out for bringing historical and literary subjects to the screen with serious research, sensitivity and powerful presentation.

Referring particularly to the acclaimed television series ‘Chanakya’, Sai said Dwivedi’s portrayal of Acharya Chanakya, his sense of nationhood and political philosophy had left a lasting impression on audiences across the country. Such works, he said, serve as an important bridge connecting younger generations with India’s civilisation, heritage and national values.

Dwivedi thanked the Chief Minister for the warm reception. Their interaction also touched upon Chhattisgarh’s rich tribal culture, folk traditions, literature and historical heritage.

Sai said the state’s cultural diversity and tribal traditions form an integral part of Chhattisgarh’s identity, adding that its folk arts, literature and historical legacy offer immense possibilities for creative exploration and storytelling.

The meeting assumes added significance as Dwivedi is in Raipur on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, where he is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the state-level programme being organised on August 14.

Chief Minister’s media adviser Pankaj Jha, Chhattisgarh Sahitya Akademi chairman Shashank Sharma, State Women’s Commission member Priyamvada Singh Judev and Prabal Pratap Singh Judev were also present.
