Raipur: Away from the routine of official meetings and public engagements, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai returned to his agricultural roots on Monday morning, stepping into a paddy field in his native village Bagia in Jashpur district and taking up the plough himself.
With a pair of bullocks moving through the lush green field, Sai held the traditional wooden plough and performed biyasi, a customary agricultural operation associated with paddy cultivation. The moment presented a very different picture of the Chief Minister — not behind a podium or surrounded by official files, but working in a field much as he had seen farmers do since childhood.
Recalling his association with agriculture, Sai said holding the plough once again brought back memories of his earlier years and his family’s farming background.

The Chief Minister said there was a distinctive sense of belonging in returning to one’s village, soil and fields. Time spent amid the fields, he added, brings peace of mind and renewed energy.

Sai said growing up in a rural and agricultural environment had taught him the dignity of labour, the importance of living in harmony with nature and the value of remaining connected with one’s roots.

Farming Remains at the Heart of Chhattisgarh
Agriculture occupies a central place not only in Chhattisgarh’s economy but also in its social and cultural life. Generations of farmers have shaped the state’s rural landscape, while several of its festivals, customs and traditions remain closely connected with the agricultural cycle.
Sai said that even as society embraces modernisation, preserving this relationship with the land and traditional agricultural values remains important. Farming, he observed, teaches patience, hard work and sensitivity towards nature.
A farmer, he said, does much more than cultivate a crop. Through his labour, he sustains families, society and the wider economy.

The Chief Minister said the prosperity of farmers and the progress of agriculture remain fundamental to Chhattisgarh’s overall development. He paid tribute to the hard work of the state’s farmers and wished them prosperity and a plentiful harvest.
For Sai, Monday morning’s visit was also a return to a familiar part of his personal journey. His life has remained closely associated with the rural environment and agriculture, and whenever his public responsibilities permit, he has continued to maintain contact with his native village and farming traditions.
The sight of the Chief Minister walking through the paddy field behind a pair of bullocks therefore carried a significance beyond the immediate occasion — reflecting a personal connection with the land and the agricultural traditions that continue to define much of rural Chhattisgarh.
