Raipur: The Chhattisgarh Government has declared Friday, September 4, 2026, a Dry Day across the state on the occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, ordering the closure of all liquor outlets and establishments authorised to sell or serve alcohol.
The Commercial Tax (Excise) Department has issued instructions to officials across Chhattisgarh to ensure strict compliance with the order.
Under the directive, all retail outlets selling country and foreign liquor will remain closed throughout the Dry Day. The restriction will also apply to restaurant bars, hotel-bars, clubs, ahatas and all other licensed establishments where liquor is sold or served.
Retail outlets selling bhang and bhangghota will also remain closed.
Strict Watch on Illegal Liquor
The government has made it clear that no hotel, restaurant, club, establishment or individual will be permitted to sell or serve liquor during the notified period. The restriction will apply equally to non-proprietary clubs, restaurants and star hotels.
Authorities have also been directed to prevent unauthorised personal storage of liquor and its stocking at unlicensed premises during the Dry Day. Liquor found in violation of the regulations may be seized and further action initiated under the applicable rules.
District authorities, along with divisional and state-level flying squads, have been instructed to intensify surveillance against the illegal transportation, storage and sale of liquor.
Special inspection teams will check suspected storage locations and suspicious vehicles. Cases will be registered against offenders wherever violations are detected.
The statewide restrictions are intended to ensure strict observance of the Dry Day declared for Shri Krishna Janmashtami on September 4.
