Raipur: Pragati College conducted an academic analysis of the short film Anukul for students of Commerce and Management on Saturday, 24 October 2026, using cinema to examine Artificial Intelligence (AI), Business Ethics, Human Resource Management (HRM), Decision-Making and the impact of technology on employment. A structured questionnaire administered through Google Forms supported the exercise by collecting students’ interpretations, insights and responses.

The activity brought together subjects that are often studied separately but increasingly intersect in professional life. By placing technological change alongside ethical responsibility and workforce management, the exercise encouraged students to consider how business decisions affect both organisations and the people associated with them.

The film served as a common reference point for examining these questions, helping connect academic concepts with situations that invite interpretation, judgement and reflection.

Cinema as a Bridge Between Theory and Application

The analysis used a short film as an educational resource to make conceptual learning more accessible and engaging. A narrative allows students to consider characters, circumstances and choices together, providing a basis for examining how decisions develop and what consequences they may carry.

For Commerce and Management students, such an approach offers scope to move beyond definitions and consider the application of ideas. Questions concerning efficiency, responsibility, employment and human relationships can be examined within a shared context rather than treated only as isolated textbook topics.

The exercise was designed to encourage careful observation and the development of reasoned interpretations, linking the viewing experience with the broader objectives of management education.

Understanding AI Beyond Technical Efficiency

Artificial Intelligence formed a key focus of the activity. The analysis sought to encourage an understanding of AI that extends beyond its capacity to perform tasks or improve operational efficiency.

For future business professionals, the growing use of intelligent systems raises questions about their appropriate role within organisations. Decisions about adopting technology require attention to its purpose, its limitations and its implications for those who work with it.

Through the film-based exercise, students were encouraged to approach AI as a subject with managerial, ethical and social dimensions. This perspective is relevant to understanding how technological capabilities influence organisational choices and expectations.

Business Ethics and Responsible Judgement

Business Ethics provided another important framework for the analysis. The exercise connected the study of technology with questions of responsibility, fairness and the consequences of decisions.

An ethical approach to management requires consideration of more than immediate convenience or organisational benefit. It also involves examining how choices affect individuals, whether those choices can be justified and who should remain accountable for their outcomes.

The academic value of the activity lay in bringing these questions into the study of AI. It encouraged students to recognise the importance of human judgement when evaluating the use of technology in professional settings.

Linking Technology with Human Resource Management

The HRM component placed attention on the relationship between technological change and the management of people. As organisations consider new systems and methods of working, workforce-related concerns become an essential part of decision-making.

The exercise offered a framework for thinking about employment, changing job responsibilities and the place of human capabilities in an increasingly technology-driven environment.

For students of management, these themes connect with the wider responsibility of understanding employees as people whose livelihoods, skills and professional identities may be affected by organisational decisions.

Examining the Impact on Employment

The impact of technology on employment was a central theme of the analysis. It provided an opportunity to consider the relationship between organisational progress and the future of work.

The subject calls for thoughtful examination of how businesses assess the benefits of technology alongside its implications for workers. It also brings attention to the importance of learning, adaptability and preparation for changing professional requirements.

By incorporating employment into the exercise, the activity linked technological understanding with a concern for the human consequences of business decisions.

Structured Questionnaire Captures Student Perspectives

A Google Form containing a structured questionnaire was used to collect students’ insights and responses to the film. This gave the analysis a written component, allowing students to organise their interpretations and connect them with the identified academic themes.

The questionnaire provided a consistent framework for gathering perspectives across AI, Business Ethics, HRM, Decision-Making and employment. It also created a record of student responses that could support further academic discussion.

The combination of film analysis and structured reflection placed emphasis on how students understood the subject and articulated their views.

Encouraging Thoughtful Future Professionals

The activity brought technological awareness into conversation with ethical reasoning and people management. Its educational purpose was to encourage students to examine business choices from several perspectives and recognise the connections between organisational decisions and their wider effects.

Through Anukul and the accompanying questionnaire, the exercise sought to strengthen an approach to learning based on observation, interpretation and reasoned judgement—qualities relevant to students preparing for careers in Commerce and Management.

Under the guidance of Amit Singh Thakur, Head of the Department of Commerce and Management, and Assistant Professors Abhinav Patel, Dr Ashish Shrivastava, Bulbul Rastogi, Bhagyashree Behara and Onkar Kour Bhamra, the students explored how lessons from cinema connect with ethical choices and the changing world of work.
