Key Highlights

  • The Bombay High Court directed the BMC to restore the video by Thursday evening.
  • The clip remained unavailable on the civic body’s social media platforms as of Thursday night.
  • BMC officials told reporters earlier that they were waiting to receive the court order before deciding whether to re-upload the clip.

Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had yet to restore a Diwali awareness video featuring actor Dia Mirza on Thursday, 5 November 2026, despite a Bombay High Court direction to re-upload it by that evening. In the clip, Mirza urged residents to celebrate Diwali without bursting firecrackers.

The BMC removed the video from its official social media accounts after Mumbai BJP chief Ameet Satam objected to it. Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde defended the decision to take it down. The High Court criticised the political objections and directed the civic body on Tuesday to restore the clip.

Civic officials had earlier told reporters they were waiting to receive the court order before deciding on the re-upload. The video was still unavailable when India Today reported on the matter at 9.42 pm on Thursday, after the court’s evening deadline.
