Aam Aadmi Party on Friday July 18, 2025 distanced itself from India alliance and clearly said that it is no longer a part of the opposition alliance. The party also questioned the leadership role of Congress in the alliance.

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday distanced itself from the ‘India’ alliance, saying it is no longer part of the opposition coalition and questioned the role of the Congress party in leading it. Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh made the remarks a day before the leaders of the ‘India’ alliance’s constituent parties are scheduled to meet virtually on Saturday evening to discuss the current political situation in the country.

Sanjay Singh criticises Congress

Criticising the Congress, Sanjay Singh questioned its role in leading the opposition alliance. He asked, “This is not child’s play. Did they hold any meeting after the Lok Sabha elections 2024? Was there any initiative to expand the India alliance? Sometimes they criticise Akhilesh Yadav, sometimes Uddhav Thackeray, sometimes Mamata Banerjee. The India block should have remained united. The Congress is the largest party in this alliance. But did it play any role in ensuring opposition unity?” Kejriwal attacks Congress after Gujarat by-elections

On the role of Aam Aadmi Party in opposing the government, Sanjay Singh said that the party has always been strongly opposing the ruling party. We will do so with full force. After winning the Visavadar assembly by-election in Gujarat, Kejriwal had alleged that the ruling BJP had sent the Congress to defeat his party. Sanjay Singh said, Aam Aadmi Party has made its stand clear. India alliance was for the Lok Sabha elections 2024. We fought the Delhi and Haryana assembly elections alone. We are going to fight the Bihar (Assembly) elections alone. We fought the by-elections in Punjab and Gujarat on our own. AAP is not a part of the India alliance. We will raise issues strongly in the Lok Sabha. We have always played the role of a strong opposition.

First meeting of India Block after Lok Sabha elections

This meeting is going to be held just before the monsoon session of Parliament starting on Monday July 21, 2025 . The constituent parties of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) alliance will discuss the political situation of the country together after a long time.
