Bharat Bandh today, from schools-colleges to markets, know what is open and what is closed?

Today is Bharat Bandh. Bharat Bandh has been announced today August against 21 , the Supreme Court’s decision on creamy layer in SC-ST reservation. Dalit and tribal organizations across the country will observe ‘Bharat Bandh’ today on August 21 demanding strong representation and security for marginalised communities. ‘National Confederation of Dalit and Adivasi Organizations’ (NACDAOR) has released a list of demands,

The organization has taken a contrary view towards the recent decision of the seven-judge bench of the Supreme Court, which according to them, undermines the decision taken by the nine-judge bench in the landmark Indira Sawhney case, which established the framework of reservation in India. NACDAOR has requested the government to reject this decision as it is a threat to the constitutional rights of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

What are the demands

The organization is also demanding the passage of a new law by Parliament on reservation for SC, ST and OBC, which should be protected with inclusion in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution. Along with this, they are demanding that the Supreme Court withdraw or reconsider the decision of quota within quota.

Who all are involved in Bharat Bandh

This Bharat Bandh has received the support of at least three political parties. Mayawati’s BSP, Hemant Soren’s JMM and Lalu Prasad Yadav’s party RJD are in support of this bandh. Also, Bhim Army has also supported it. However School, Colleges ,health and medical services will remain open .
